So, recently, I reviewed Gina Damico’s Croak, a story about Lex, a young Grim with unusually strong powers. Lex returns to Croak only to face challenges. A Grim with the power to Damn is killing humans and Grims alike, and this Grim has a score to settle with Lex. Add that to the other problems in Croak, and Lex has a full set of challenges to handle. Will she succeed?
This book came together a lot better in my opinion. The plot was tight, action-packed, and fast-paced. One of my problems with the first book was that I felt it dragged in some places. This book had a well-directed plot, which moved well and built off itself; it took me an evening and a fraction of a morning to read the whole book. I liked the exploration into the Grim world and other cities. I also had a better sense of the supporting cast; Mort is shaping up to be seriously awesome, and some of the new supporting cast from other cities was better thought-out than others in the first. Overall, it was a lot of fun, with themes teens would enjoy. Check it out.
