For many years, there have been two territories: the Magisterium and the Colloquim. Colloquuim resident Glenn Morgan wants nothing more than to enter Deep Space Exploration, but her father, driven by the Project to bring back Glenn’s mom, will not pay attention to her goals and desires. When her father finally completes his Project, it sets in motion events that force Glenn to flee into the Magisterium, where she quickly finds that things are not as neat and tidy as they seemed.
This book was great fun! The plot is tight and swift, with lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing at the characters’ motivations. I also liked the mix of magic and technology. I find that books tend to separate it into either science fiction or fantasy, so I like that there was a balance and conflict between the two. I would liked more explanation for how that rift happened, but I am hoping that Hirsch will continue to explore the setting. Overall, it was a fun book, and worth checking out if you like fantasy and sci-fi!
