Ed Kennedy is an underage cab driver, who lives by himself in a shack and shares coffee with his smelly dog the Doorman. After he foils a bank robbery, however, Ed begins receiving playing cards in the mail. The cards have names–missions that Ed must complete. Now, Ed spends nights walking the streets of his town helping those listed on his cards. But the question remains: who is behind Ed’s missions?
This book was amazing! I was completely engrossed in the plot, the characters–just about everything about it, I loved. If I didn’t have schoolwork, I probably would have read the entire book in a day. I was that engrossed. Mark Zusak has created a compelling narrative; the characters are so ordinary–especially Ed–but they do such interesting things. Also, the humor was fantastic: The Doorman is a fantastic name for a dog, and I actually burst out laughing at certain plot points. This is a superb book, with a great point that Zusak delivers without getting too preachy. Go check this one out now!
