Eva Forge is the last Paladin in the dying cult of the war god Morgan. Morgan was murdered by his brother Amon, and tensions have remained between the two cults. When someone captures the Fratriarch of the Cult of Morgan–Eva’s mentor and current charge–, things get crazy. Eva must figure out who’s friend and who’s foe, and the realizations may very shake the foundation of the great city Ash.
A friend of mine recommended this book to me, and, overall, I’m glad that I picked it up. The plot is quick-moving and action-packed, making this book a quick read. Eva herself is a major force in the story and is responsible for moving the plot along quickly. It is one of the things that I liked about the character, in addition to the fact that she can kick some major butt.
Another part of the book that I really enjoyed was the setting. In fact, it probably holds the top spot for favorite things about this book. I was particularly impressed with the concept for deities. I loved the idea of human gods, mortal, but still obscenely powerful. It reminded me of some portrayals of the Graeco-Roman gods, but with the mortality of the Norse deities. I won’t go too much more into this part because that would mean spoilers. Regardless, it’s pretty cool
Overall, I’m glad I read the book and recommend it, particularly to teenage fans of sci-fi/fantasy.
