The Muroe High Kendo Team is mostly dead, until Ishida-sensei and teamp captain Kirino discover Tamaki, a kendo prodigy! Initially, Tamaki refuses, but eventually decides to join. Inspired, Kirino assembles the rest of a killer squad of kendo chicks! Ishida-sensei, however, is just thinking about how his new team will help him!
I had very mixed feelings about this anime. It is definitely cute, and the main characters are reminiscent of those from super hero shows. Some characters, I enjoyed very much–Tamaki and Yuuji are prime examples. Tamaki is shy and reflective, but she really is awesome to watch fighting. However, I found the execution of some of the characters’ personalities and relationships obnoxious. Azuma’s character was kind of strange, and I really didn’t see the point of her being so clumsy, or so unfortunate. She’s a really strong fighter, and I wanted to see more of that. Dan and Miya-miya’s relationship was more or less off, and I wasn’t sure why they were even together. There was a bit too much blind, mushy love, without any real depth to it.
That being said, the kendo scenes are truly epic and a pleasure to watch. Also when the series is on plot-wise, it’s quite exciting, and I enjoyed watching it. Unfortunately, the plot didn’t stay tight the whole time, so the series did drag. I think my main problem was that I wanted challenges for Tamaki to come sooner, rather than closer to the end. Overall, it is an enjoyable show, and I leave it to up to you whether you want to watch it.
