In Academy City, located in Western Tokyo, students with psychic abilities train to develop and improve their abilities. The star of the school and main character Misaka Mikoto, an electromaster who’s able to launch an arcade coin at three times the speed of sound, is trying to become even stronger and deal with that obnoxious guy who can’t seem to leave her alone. However, a bomber has been targeting members of Judgement, the student police force, and Misaka and her friends get pulled into solving the case.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this first volume. I initially was kind of annoyed by Misaka’s character, who’s really energetic and egotistical. It wasn’t until the mystery really started up that I got into the story and began to find the characters–even Misaka–really cool and interesting. I’m curious to see how things will progress in the second volume. I’ll give a better assessment once I finish going through the series, but, overall, I am encouraged that it’s going to be pretty cool.
