Theseus Cassio is a ghost hunter. With his Wiccan mother and her black cat, he travels from place to place dispatching ghosts with his dead father’s knife. The story begins when Cas moves up to Thunder Bay, Ontario to dispatch Anna Dressed in Red, a girl who died from a slash to her throat. Anna now haunts her house and kills anyone who enters it. Cas enters the house under rather disadvantageous circumstances. Anna spares him. Things get really interesting then.
I really loved this book and definitely recommend it. The first thing that came to my head that came to head: I love it when the female character is the juggernaut. Seriously, Anna is probably the best thing about this book. She is utterly powerful and insane, but still very much aware of herself and her surroundings. She and her relationship with Cas is very touching, and Kendare Blake conveys this relationship very well.
I was also genuinely pleased with how Blake took the reader through the story. It’s a face-paced, exciting plot, and I plowed through it with the efficiency of a Midwestern snow plow. Cas is a fun, witty narrator, and it’s great to watch him change and grow as a character. All of the characters really grow and change, and Blake conveys it subtly and gracefully. The plot twist is excellent. So, what are you waiting for? Go check it out!
