Hello, everyone, and Merry Christmas! It has been a great day so far. In honor of the day, I thought I would talk about what the holiday means to me. I’ve mentioned previously that I am not a particularly religious person, yet for many people, particularly Americans, this holiday celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. I am not going to get into a religious argument here–people have a right to celebrate the way they choose, so long as they respect my way to celebrate. I thought I’d go into what the holiday means to me.
For me, the holiday is a time to spend with people who mean a lot to me. Throughout the year, I think it becomes hard to stay connected to people. However, something about the holidays makes me and others try to re-connect. Every year, my family receives letters and gifts from friends and family whom we have not necessarily kept in touch with. We visit with neighbors we have not seen. While it might be awkward and strange, it is not at Christmas, but rather is cozy. I think it is still possible for that to happen without the holiday season, but I think Christmas makes it easier perhaps.
For me, the connection and the time of family is the most important part of Christmas. To be able to re-connect and show affection in that special time is what it’s all about.
